In Monmouth County, one of the best things is how our local communities come together for major holidays. This year, the Independence Day festivities are hitting an entirely new level as towns across the state kick off special celebrations honoring America's 250th anniversary! Grab your lawn chairs and beach blankets because here is your official guide to the best local celebrations.
🎇The Weekday Lead-Up (June 30 – July 2)
Don’t wait until the weekend to start celebrating! Several of our fantastic inland and bayfront communities are getting a head start with evening festivals and displays.
- Tuesday, June 30
- Holmdel (Bell Works): Kick off the week at the historic Bell Works property for their annual Red, White + Boom celebration. Fireworks light up the sky directly over the parking lot starting at 9:15 PM.
- Wednesday, July 1
- Aberdeen (Veterans Memorial Park): Aberdeen is leaning heavily into the nation's 250th birthday with a family-friendly festival from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM featuring food trucks and activities, with fireworks launching at 9:15 PM.
- Thursday, July 2
- Ocean Township (Joe Palaia Park): Check out the "Lighting the Way to America's 250th" festival from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM. It's an evening full of live music, delicious local vendors, and a grand firework finale.
- Howell (Soldier Memorial Park): Howell’s local Independence Day Celebration kicks off at 5:00 PM, featuring great neighborhood camaraderie and fireworks at dusk.
- Bradley Beach & Atlantic Highlands: Coastal lovers have two excellent choices on Thursday night. Head down to the Bradley Beach beachfront at 9:00 PM or catch the massive harbor display over the water in Atlantic Highlands at 9:30 PM (part of their annual Fireman’s Fair!).
🏖️ The Big Weekend Kickoff (Friday, July 3)
Friday night is historically one of the biggest nights on the Jersey Shore for fireworks, and this year is no exception:
- Asbury Park Beachfront: This is widely considered one of the absolute best displays in the state. Find a spot anywhere along the boardwalk; fireworks launch from the sand between 1st and 4th Avenues right at 9:00 PM.
- Belmar (Taylor Pavilion): Looking for something unique? Belmar is hosting a free live concert at 8:30 PM, followed by a synchronized computerized laser light show and beachfront fireworks at 9:10 PM (at 5th & Ocean Ave).
- Manasquan (Main Beach): A true community classic! Enjoy a parade, an evening beach concert, and a massive offshore firework display lighting up the oceanfront from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
- Hazlet & Colts Neck: If you prefer inland parks over coastal sand, Hazlet is hosting its community fireworks display at Veterans Park at dusk, while Colts Neck will feature an outstanding local display at Bucks Mill Park at dusk.
- Navesink River (Middletown Area): Keep an eye out over the river around 9:15 PM for a spectacular display launched from the riverbanks, which offers incredible public viewing from the Oceanic Bridge.
🎆 Independence Day Main Events (Saturday, July 4)
On the 4th of July, Monmouth County hosts some of the largest Independence Day events in New Jersey, with rich historic landmarks.
- Long Branch (Oceanfest): This is the crown jewel of Jersey Shore 4th of July celebrations. Oceanfest is a massive, all-day street festival running from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM along the oceanfront promenade. Expect incredible food trucks, craft vendors, live musical stages, and a legendary offshore fireworks spectacular that goes off over the ocean at 9:00 PM. Best views are from the Great Lawn!
- Keansburg (Baywalk East): The 9th Annual Family Fun Fest runs from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM right next to the historic amusement park area, featuring endless entertainment and an over-the-bay firework finale at dusk.
- Sea Bright Beachfront: For a slightly more relaxed ocean view, head to the Sea Bright public beach at 9:00 PM for an elegant display right over the water.
🛸 The Sunday Finale (Sunday, July 5)
- Middletown (Bayshore Waterfront Park): Cap off the holiday weekend with a modern twist. Middletown is hosting a spectacular festival from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM with beach games, food trucks, and tours of historic structures. The weekend concludes at dusk with a massive, choreographed patriotic drone light show illuminating the sky over the bay.
